Most account-opening friction is a documentation problem, not a bank problem. The checklist below is what UAE providers actually request — prepare it once and the file works everywhere.
The core document set
- Trade licence — valid, with the activity that matches your real operations.
- Incorporation documents — MOA/AOA, share certificate or free-zone equivalent.
- Shareholder and signatory IDs — passports, Emirates IDs (or entry stamps/visas for non-residents).
- Proof of address — Ejari/tenancy or a flexi-desk agreement; the registered license address usually suffices.
- Proof of operations — the document most files lack: two or three contracts, recent invoices, a live website, or a marketplace seller account.
- Bank statements — 3–6 months of personal or existing-company statements, used to sanity-check the projected turnover.
Realistic timelines by provider type
Digital providers (
Wio, ruya,
Zand): 1–3 days
Fully remote onboarding, no branch visit, rules-based review. Clean files with a matching activity and proof of operations routinely approve within days — this is the "instant" tier in practice.
Mid-tier and neobank-lite (
Mashreq NeoBiz,
CBD): ~3–5 days
Remote application with a human review layer. Slightly stricter on substance than pure digital players, faster than full-service banks.
Traditional banks (ENBD,
FAB,
RAKBANK): 1–3 weeks
Committee-based review, usually one branch visit, and deeper checks on ownership and activity. The payoff is pricing, limits and trade-finance access once established.
What slows files down
Three repeatable causes: an activity description that does not match the contracts you attach; no proof of operations (a licence alone reads as a shelf company); and ownership structures with layers banks must untangle — holding companies and foreign parents add weeks. Fix the file, not the bank: the same package gets declined or approved on presentation.
Non-residents and no-office cases
Non-residents can open business accounts — the file needs stronger proof of operations and usually one trip for ID verification unless the provider offers video KYC. A physical office is replaceable by a flexi-desk agreement; what cannot be replaced is evidence the business actually trades.
Approval times and remote-onboarding flags for every tracked provider are on the business accounts comparison — filter by "no branch visit" if remote opening is a hard requirement.
